E-commerce has steadily been rising over the past 20 years. However, its impact on retail sales has long been smaller than people think. In 2019, e-commerce sales account for only 11% of total retail sales, which was the highest share before the pandemic. During Covid-19, this share jumped to 14%, or $792 million in 2020, which is up from only 7.3% in 2015. The pace simply accelerated.

The cost per mile of a personally owned vehicle went down drastically from $1.70 t0 $0.70 when horses were not needed anymore. The price stay the same for decades, but we are facing another drop. Autonomous taxi, on a scale, could cost customers only $0.25 per mile, most likely encouraging a wide adoption.
