Huawei steps up revenues and Chinese smartphone market share

Huawei has continued its rise, with revenues at $136 billion in 2020, up from $123 billion in 2019. According to Canalys, the Chinese market share of Huawei reached a record 39 percent in 2019. The company has been benefiting from the consolidation of the Chinese smartphone market that has been decreasing in volume since 2016. In 2020, however, Huawei's Chinese market share decreased for the first time amid the global chip shortage that ensued in Q4, leading to an average 2020 market share of just 37 percent. Huawei has said that the U.S. ban was to blame for the shortfall, even though opinions on that differ.
