U.S Earnings season: a record number of "Triple Plays"

A very interresting chart by Bespoke which shows that U.S companies are reporting triple plays at an astounding rate. An earnings triple play is when a company beats estimates on both the top and bottom lines while simultaneously raising guidance. Bespoke keep track of the 100 most recent triple play. Of those, 38 reported triple plays, which is a very high number. From a historical perspective, the chart below shows the percentage of stocks reporting triple plays over the past 90 days on a rolling basis. In the past 3 months, 12.18% of earnings reports have been a triple play, which is the highest ever. Note that the reverse is true, i.e we are currently seeing the lowest number of "negative" triple plays.
