UK retail sales show modest rebound in consumer spending

The volume of goods sold in shops and online rose 2.1% from the start of 2021. There is still room for growth which is a good sign, but threats of lockdowns jeopardize further in-store shopping. Shares of online sales have however increased to a record high reaching 36.1% of sales.

Chinese tech stocks might not make such a great bargain anymore. The industry saw a $732 billion selloff, the biggest ever seen by the Chinese tech giants, there is likely room for more downside. Chip plants will continue seeing increased demand in 2021

Even before Intel’s latest investment plan the semiconductor industry was on pace for record capital spending. The industry globally was expected to plow a record $129.4 billion into things such as new plants and equipment, up around 14% from a year ago. Intel became America’s chip-making icon over decades by designing the most advanced chips and making them in-house. But it stumbled in recent years, falling behind rivals that typically specialized either in chip design or production. Graphic-chips rival Nvidia Corp. , which outsources all chip-making, last year surpassed Intel as the most valuable U.S. semiconductor company.
