The number of smokers reached a new high of 1.1 billion in 2019. However, the share of smokers among the world population has decreased dramatically, but the important population growth still led to many more smokers overall. The smokiest country is China, which represents 28% out of the 127 studied country, which themselves account for 92% of the world's population.
