The tokenization of real-world assets is growing in volume, and currencies are dominating the nascent industry. A recent research paper showed that estimates show that the market has surpassed $20 billion, with stablecoins (tokenized currencies) representing 40% of it.

So far, Tesla has roughly made a $1 billion in paper profit from its bitcoin investment. According to Daniel Ives, analyst at Wedbush Securities, the company could be on a trajectory to make more from its Bitcoin investments than profits from selling its EV (electric vehicle) cars in all of 2020," which is quite a statement. We do not know if they already sold any of the $1.5 billion worth of bitcoin they bought earlier this months, but we do know that Elon Musk is rather bullish on bitcoin: “a simply a less dumb form of liquidity than cash.”

Bitcoin is closing in on a market value of $1 trillion, a surge that’s helping cryptocurrency returns far outstrip the performance of more traditional assets like stocks and gold. The largest token has added more than $415 billion of value in 2021 to about $956 billion, data compiled by Bloomberg show.
